Netflix’s original series Sweet Tooth based on the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemiere is ready to premiere worldwide on 4 June 2021.
The streaming giant dropped a two-minute full-length trailer on Thursday. Sweet Tooth revolves around a small boy, who is a hybrid deer human. It is a story that takes place ten years after The Great Crumble event which created great havoc in the world and leads to the mysterious emergence of hybrid babies born as part human, part animal.
The trailer depicts that Humans considered these Hybrids as the cause of a widespread virus, which led humans to hunt them down. Sweet Tooth is the tale of a sheltered hybrid deer boy named Gus, who builds an extraordinary bond with a loner named Jepperd. The two set on an adventurous journey across the dangerous world in search of answers about Gus’s origin, Jepperd’s past, and the true meaning of home.
The series stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Aliza Vellani, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez, Neil Sandilands, Will Forte, and James Brolin.
Jim Mickle is the director, writer, and executive producer of the series. Mickle is a well-known filmmaker and has created movies like Cold in July, In the Shadow of the Moon, and Hap and Leonard series.
In Netflix’s official release, Mickle said, “We wanted to make a show that offers escape and adventure, where nature is reclaiming the world and in many ways, it feels like a fairytale. Sweet Tooth is a new kind of dystopian story, it’s very lush and hopeful. We want people to come into this world where there’s beauty and hope and adventure. This is a sweeping story-we ride on trains, climb mountaintops, run through forests. This is a show about what makes a family, what home means, and why it’s important to keep faith in humanity.”
Sweet Tooth was first released as a comic book by Vertigo, an imprint of DC comics. However, the series was announced to premiere on Hulu in 2018, but two years later it has been moved from Hulu to Netflix. The series is executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s production company.
