Netflix to partner with Xilam for CGI kids series ‘Trico’

Netflix will be launching Trico, a CGI-3D kids series produced by Xilam Animation, the studio behind international hits like Oggy and the Cockroaches and Zig & Sharko.

Created by Xilam’s Hugo Gittard (Zig & Sharko, Magoo), the series is about former globetrotter Trico, who finds the mountain pasture life a little too peaceful and boring. To shake things up, he embarks on adventures with his fellow sheep, causing trouble for Biscotte, an ewe who has to keep the flock safe, especially from the Wolf who is always waiting for a chance to catch sheep however he can.

Xilam Animation CEO and executive producer Marc du Pontavice said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to be undertaking this new collaboration with Netflix and feel honoured by the trust they have placed in Xilam’s talents. Hugo has created a fantastic series which is brimming with endearing characters and original comedy – we’re sure Trico’s mishaps will charm and entertain audiences across the globe.”

The non-verbal slapstick comedy will be branded as a Netflix Original. Xilam will retain second window global linear television distribution and merchandising rights to Trico. The series comprises of 78 episodes of seven minutes each and is slated for release in early 2022.

Xilam Animation is also working with Netflix on the Oggy Oggy, a spinoff series of Oggy and the Cockroaches which shows a young Oggy breaking free from the tyranny of the cockroaches and living in a fantasy world inhabited by a vibrant community of cats.
